Recorder | Democratic legislative candidate Martin A. McGuane officially dropped out of the Second Franklin District race Thursday night, ending days of speculation following his arrest last week.
In a simple press statement, e-mailed Thursday at 7:31 p.m., the 53-year-old candidate was quoted as saying, ‘Due to health issues and personal reasons, I am withdrawing from the race, effective immediately.’
The press release said there would be no further comment from McGuane or his campaign committee.
NOTE: No comment was returned to me when I sent out an email to the campaign headquarters. No notice posted on MassLive yet, either. I do have to say, when I watched him on the debates, his answers were off the cuff and not read from prepared speeches like the other candidates. He might have done a good job if his “health issues” (read: alcoholism) and his personal reasons (read: piss-poor liar) didn’t force him to withdraw.
